The Indigenous Circassian Passport will help establish proof of Ethnic Identity and Nationality
Today Assimilation is the real and immediate cancerous threat facing our People throughout the world undoubtedly it will contribute to the demise of our ethnic identity, culture, language, traditional knowledge and nation conservatively within 3 generations. On November 24, 1934, Turkey introduced the surname act; called "Soyadi kanunu". The purpose of this law was to force all groups of people, regardless of their ethnicity or religion, to assume a Turkish last name. This law is still applied today, and it is strictly forbidden for any ethnic minorities to assume "non-Turkish names". These names are by law prohibited in Turkey.
Such policies are detrimentally catastrophic as nothing can withstand the forces of time. With the Turkish Diaspora being the highest in concentration of Indigenous Circassians population in the World of around 5 million, there need be no commentary on how disastrous such a policy can be upon an unprotected culture such as ours. Assimilation has the ability to wipe from the face of the earth within a few generations an entire peoples and Nation. We are franticly trying to reverse the destructive effects upon our culture these laws have.
Immanently the Circassian issue with the highest threat level faced by our people right now is the phenomenon known as the Arab spring. The Circassian Diaspora of Libya Egypt and currently Syria are now facing an imminent threat of danger to once again become displaced and stateless people. Already a displaced people to begin with and seemingly with no open road back to the Indigenous homeland, ultimately we fear the worst for our people, and the lack of willingness from the international community to help. Considering the current and past circumstances affecting The Indigenous Circassian nation in Exile, and in keeping with international standards of human rights and international laws, together with the universal mandates within instruments such as;
United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)
International Covenants on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR)
Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD)
Convention on the Rights of the Child (CROC)
Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW)
Convention against Torture (CAT)
Convention on Migrant Workers
Convention on Disabilities (CRPD)
and in the interests of peace and good will, the Indigenous Circassian Nation In Exile has issued passports for all Indigenous Circassians. The passports will be issued to our compatriots who have or are in the midst of losing their land, state, ethnicity, culture, Identity, heritage or Life.
The purpose for the Indigenous Circassian Passport is to assist our compatriots with International identification credentials and universal human right to travel.
The issuance of the passport is in line with article 46 of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and cannot be understood or misunderstood to be a political protest a separatist or a secessionist movement or incitement. This is simply our collective and natural right we have as a nation within the context of international law and custom. In the absence of critical and immediate assistance for our people from the international community, due to the complexities international conflicts pose to aid, evacuation and assistance.
We assure that these books of Nationality and identification are issued under the same care and security as permitted and required by international regulation.
We request that, if any of our compatriots arrive at your boarder in possession of a Circassian Passport that you kindly extend to them the same rights and courtesy of all travellers, stateless persons or people seeking refuge, asylum in your Good Country under international law.
